Message from Principal Kunihisa: Friday, August 7, 2020

Good evening families this is Principal Kunihisa with a follow-up message in response to Governor Ige and Superintendent Kishimoto’s press conference today. We are shifting now to a 100% full distance program for all students. That means all students will be placed in a classroom with a teacher and will be getting daily instruction beginning August 17 and until September 11.

If you were one of the families who completed the Distance Learning Opt-In form we will put your application “on hold” until we resume the blended model. Upon return to school, everyone will have the choice to return to school in our planned blended “in-person” model or start the Distance Learning program that will require you to take on the role of a Full Distance Educator as planned.

Again, we will be servicing students in a distance model for EVERYONE beginning August 17 and until September 11, 2020. If your child receives special education services and cannot receive distance learning there will be exceptions made for in-person instruction. More information about getting prepared will be sent out next week so stay tuned to our phone calls and social media. Class lists will also be updated and we will notify you when they change on our board.

I am so grateful for your continued support. Mahalo for showing us and each other Unity, Patience, and Serenity as we move into this new model of 100% online teaching and learning. Have a great weekend!

Message from VP Tominaga 7/29/2020

Good evening families. This is Vice Principal Tominaga with two important announcements.
1) Tomorrow at 1:00pm There will be an emergency Board of Education meeting to discuss possible delay in starting school for students. Due to this meeting and possibly delay, we are postponing the classlist being posted on July 31st. If school is starting later we may have to make changes to the classroom list. We will provide further information following the emergency BOE meeting. Regardless of the start date selected our school team is ready to service your children.

2) We need our student computers that were borrowed over the summer to prepare them for the new school year. If you missed our collection days this week, please bring it tomorrow, Thursday, July 30 to the front office.

Full Distance Learning Form

Good Afternoon Families,

An important update: The Full Distance Learning registration form is now available to all families. Full Distance Model is a choice where your child stays home completely and does not attend school in person at all. However, your child will still be considered a student at Kanoelani.

Someone at home will assume the responsibility of a Full Distance Educator who will teach your child daily. The school will purchase Acellus (online curriculum) for your child and support their progress through coaching of the Full Distance Educator and occasional student meetings. The school will also handle grading and report cards for your child.

Parents can opt into Full Distance Learning for each quarter. In other words, you can choose this option at any time but will need to complete an entire quarter before returning to any in-person learning.
