News & Announcements

Academies at Kanoelani Elementary

If you haven't heard the buzz around town, we wanted to give you a heads up and some information about our exciting "Academies" that your child is participating in this week.

Academies is loosely modeled after Pearl City High School's structure and format. It allows students to think through their interests and make choices about their learning. Our commitment is to foster student voice and choice through EXPLORATION. This is the first step in students identifying potential careers.

Our entire staff developed new "classes" for kids to select based on interest and abilities. Both students and adults enjoy this opportunity to learn something unique and new. Please be sure to ask your child this week about week about the activity and learning he or she is exploring in their academy class.

Class choices are a mixture of teacher generated classes and classes offered by outside community members. Special thanks to our community members who volunteered their time and expertise! Thank you to the following: Japanese International Karate Center, UH West Oahu, Island Tumblers, and Therapy Dogs Inc.

Check out our Instagram account for video and photos of some of the cool activities the students have been exploring all week.

If you are interested in helping (one day visitor) or even offering an academy class, please contact the school in January!
